The Geelong community is invited to experience the city’s newest waterfront landmark, with Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre opening its doors for a free Community Open Day on Saturday 11 July.
Running from 10am to 4pm, the Open Day will give the public an opportunity to explore the new venue in its first weeks of operation, with self-guided tours, live entertainment and a showcase of local food and beverage.
Visitors will enjoy a full program of entertainment throughout the day, including performances by Motion Dance Company, the Sweethearts band, Wild Gloriosa and Abigail Grace.
A key highlight will be up to 20 exhibition stands featuring local suppliers and partners of Nyaal Banyul, offering tastings of artisan food, wines and spirits from across the region.
Nyaal Banyul General Manager Rick Aylett said the event was an important moment for both the venue and the region.
“Nyaal Banyul is Geelong’s venue. This Open Day is an invitation for the community to come together, gather, and experience Nyaal Banyul for themselves,” Mr Aylett said.
“We’ve created a space designed for connection, celebration and shared experiences, and we’re proud to see it come to life on Geelong’s waterfront. It’s important that the community feels a sense of ownership and pride in what has been delivered here.
“We’re also proud to showcase the incredible local suppliers and producers who will play an important role in the future of this venue.”
Alongside entertainment and tastings, visitors can enjoy free family-friendly activities - such as face painting by Mabel and Grace - with the event timed during the school holidays to encourage participation from all ages.
The Community Open Day marks the first opportunity for many to see the spaces inside the venue and experience what will become a major destination for events, conferences and community activities in the region.
